Two more days added to our popular Sunset Cruises

We have been doing the Sunset Cruises for a few years now and they have become more and more popular so we have decided to add a few more dates to our schedule. We don't want to over do it but we have added to extra days so I hope this fits in with your plans.

We will be sailing on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday's from now until mid September. We sail from 7pm to 9pm but as the nights draw in we will be going a little quicker every week so if you decide this is something you fancy doing then please give us a call or book online to reserve your place on the boat.

If you are not sure what entails......

We sail around all of the islands telling you about the history, the seabirds (when in season) the seals and the lighthouses. We will slowly cruise around the islands giving you the perfect opportunity to take a good picture of just to take everything in. After the trip we will head towards the beach and try to get the sunset going down behind Bamburgh Castle as we head home.

This trip might just be perfect for your needs. If you are not in the area for very long and want to see as much as possible while your here then this trip might just fit in with your plans.

Golden Hour

We do Sunset Cruises every Tuesday and Thursday from 7pm until 9pm(ish) and as the evenings close in a bit quicker every week, but this does not happen until the end of August into September.

If you ever think that work gets in the way of a trip out to the islands then this trip might be the one for you.
I love this trip and its great to see the seabirds in a different light too. The noise level seems to increase to another level during the evening as well and the place seems to be buzzing too.

Even when the seabirds leave its still a great trip and we try to end the trip by heading to the beach and watch the sunset go down behind Bamburgh Castle.

Sunset Cruise 2017

We have now finally had our last sunset cruise for the season and boy was it a beauty. We had finished a week ago but the weather was not the best so when we saw the forecast for Tuesday we decided to give it another go and hopefully we will finish with a bang.
This season has been very mixed weather wise but the sunset cruises have sometimes been the best part of the day and this is one of the reason why its a special trip for me.
This season has been a little bit better as I have had a new crew member joining me twice a week for the sunset cruises and a few other trips of course and he is new to everything from boats to the seabirds. Teaching him has been a pleasure and he is very willing to learn too which is great and makes my job even more of an enjoyment. 
Our guests keep on asking where is he from as they don't want to their size nine's right in it. Yep he is an Ozzy and not from New Zealand and that's why most people ask first.
I keep on taking the piss and say that he got on the wrong boat but I think the best one he has had this year so far was a man asking him, how long have you been practicing the Ozzy accent. He just replied 27 years mate... To this day I think the man still thinks he was taking the piss out of him.

So with a new crewman on board the sunsets have been really kind to us and he has been blown away with some cracking ones this season and yes our last one was a mega one too.

We could not have finished on a higher note than we did. We had some lovely guests on board with first timers to the farnes and some locals too. Its really nice to see locals on board and I think more locals should come on board just to see whats its like. I would like to thank everyone who has joined us this year on the sunsets and a bigger thank you to all the people who have recommended their guests, friends or family to join us too.
I would also like to thank my Facebook and Twitter friends who keep on sharing my sunset pictures as if it where not for you people might not know we do it, so thank you.

New Life

The noise is unreal at the moment from all the seabirds and the noise level has increased as the chicks are calling at the top of their voices too.

Its great to see new life at the Farnes and doing so well too but as I write this blog the seas are terrible and it feels more like a winters day than it does a summers day. I do hope all the seabirds will be ok during this dreadful weather we are having. On a plus note the Farnes had its 1st ever mega bird pass through the Staple Sound today (29/06/17) a Black-Browed Albatross. This a mega bird and I bet the rangers who saw it will be having a party tonight and who could blame them.

The season is now ticking away and it will not be long before all the seabirds will be gone and another season is over. I don't really like this feeling but I suppose I get it every year and you would think I would be used to it by now. Don't get me wrong we still have a few week to go but we are starting to see gaps appear on the rocks now.

I have noticed this year that the Kittiwakes have done really well and they have had more than just one chick too.

The Guillemots have been jumping loads, which is great for all of our guests to see. Jimmy, (one of the lads that works for us) caught a jumpling on film the other day which was great to see. We also saw the Luecistic Guillemot again and it looks in really good health. I thought it would not survive but it seems to be doing just fine which is great news. 

New Life is just a wonderful thing to see and its hard to believe that in a few years time they will be back looking for their own partners and starting their families too.

Nature is such a wonderful thing and every year it gives thousands of people enjoyment, including myself.

Lots of the seabirds are doing really well and they can become very aggressive towards other seabirds if they think they are going to harm their chicks.
The other day Andy (my crewman) and myself witnessed a shag trying to kill a guillemot as it must have got to close to her chicks. It was in some ways fascinating to watch but then in another way it was sickening. The guillemot got away but the fear in the other guillemots eyes as she was trying to protect her chick at the same time was awful. Lucky for her the shag just went back to her chicks and never bothered her but she must have been so frightened in case she did but then further along the cliff was a young razorbill peaking out of its mother wing thinking I'm glad I'm over here and not there.

There has also been lots of feeding frenzies going on which is great to see and it feeds lots of hungry seabirds too. The seals have enjoyed the sun and we have had some really nice sunset cruises too.

We also have had some great views of the Bottlenose Dolphins and their young too and they always aim to please. Its also great to see the smiles on peoples faces after they see the dolphins as its unexpected and most people don't ever think they will see them in the uk.

Overall everything has been coming on nicely but lets hope this weather has not knocked them back to much.
